I use the appropriate size cage for each dog. I cover my cages on all sides, except for the front, and lay a cover and/ or pee pad down to assure your pet feels safe and comforted. Over stimulation /anxiety can cause pets to drool, release their bowels and become excited/ aggressive. If pet's become aggressive, anxious or overly active, I will lower the front and assure they have plenty of ventilation to avoid them being overly stimulated and keep them feeling safe.
I use multiple professional clippers for each dog. Each clipper has it pros and cons, and really depends on groomer preference. I use Wahl KM2 clipper as my everyday clipper. My Andis Ultraedge Super 2-Speed clipper is strong but quite. I use it for feet, faces and difficult rough-ins/matting. Although, the high speed can cause them to heat up quickly. They're strong but quite. My Wahl KM Cordless clipper work well for skimming and for dogs that are more active and might cause the wires to get caught up. My back ups are Andis ProClip AG2 clipper, which are quite, but not strong. Trimmers work great for faces and pads.
Clipper blades are available in a variety of different lengths and tooth patterns to achieve different trim styles and coat lengths. They are differentiated by blade numbers. The uneven or coarse teeth on a Skip Tooth blade will feed the hair into the cutting blade more effectively, which allows you to clip under mats. The teeth of the Finishing/ Full Tooth blade are even, creating a smoother finish. Can be used before and after bath. The Wide Blade, my blades of choice, has a cutting surface that is wider than regular blades (» 1.5 times Wider than regular blades). This can make the haircut more even and the grooming process faster and safer. Sizes vary by brand (Andis, Oyster, Wahl, Zolitta, Etc.)
Clipper Snap on combs, sometimes referred as dog clipper guard, are considered a safer approach to controlling the length when clipping your pet’s fur. Snap-on combs are attached to the clipper’s blade, so they “soften” the cutting edge with their rounded ends. Even if your hand slips or you haven’t mastered your technique, clipper guards protect your dog from being poked by the blade and getting hurt. They allow for longer, more even cut. Wahl Stainless Steel Colored Attachment Combs and my preferred Zolitta Wide Combs are made of strong and durable stainless-steel prongs that pass easily through the coat. The colored combs make it easy to select the length you need making our guide combs convenient.
Dogs with short, smooth coats need a soft bristle brush, rubber curry brush, or grooming glove. Dogs with medium-length coats can use a slicker brush or pin brush. Dogs with long coats need a pin brush or slicker brush.
De-matting brushes have wire bristles that are bent and help to brush through matts. Start at the outer edge of the matt and work inward. Do this before bathing as bathing will tighten the matt.
Use the comb/rake to brush in the direction of hair growth. Don't use too much pressure so that it hurts your dog's skin; instead, apply firm strokes that will help remove dead hairs.
Undercoat rakes are for de-shedding heavy coated and long haired breeds. Use a gentle touch. Keep brushing until no more hair comes out with the brush. This will help brighten the coat.
Use a shedding blade to grab dead hairs all over the coat. Shedding blades are an excellent way to help reduce shedding and prevent mats.
De-matting rakes are for heavy coated and long haired breeds. This brush has a blade on it that actually cuts the hair, so go easy. The cutting ability can be useful to thin out areas where the hair is extra thick like the ruff and pants areas.

Nail trimming is a necessity and helps your dog walk around much easier. Should be done every 4-8 weeks, depending on your dogs outdoor activity, which naturally helps wear the nails down. CAUTION: Nails can curl and grow into the foot/ pad after a couple of weeks or break-off and require surgery. Nail filing makes the nails less jagged and safer for your pet, groomer and yourself.

Scissors made for dog hair are different from paper or human hair scissors. They are made to keep a sharp edge when dealing with dog hair. Human hair and paper scissors will blunt very quickly when used on dogs, as dog hair is much thicker than human hair. There are 5 types of grooming scissors: straight scissors, curved scissors, thinning scissors, blenders and chunkers. Which type, size and brand I use depends on the hair type, style and size of the dog. I use each kind everyday.
My cat grooming services will include bathing, nail trimming, and ear cleaning. I understand cats can be nervous in new environments, so I take the time and use the proper tools to ensure they are comfortable and relaxed.
